So you know that we encourage that you get and have a skin care routine and also that you spend time with a little trial and error finding what products work for you and your skin. But how long should you give each product when trying it out? How long will it take for your skin to improve once you’ve introduced a new step or product into your routine?
It’s a question that can’t be answered easily. Different products and different people will react differently. Instant results maybe be observed in the form of a soft feel or brighter complexion but the real changes take time to happen.
A good rule of thumb
What we can tell you is that on average retinoids take the longest. This ingredient can take up to several months to really show its potential. Anti-oxidants can begin to show progress in brightening the skin but their effects on fine lines and wrinkles take a little longer. Lightening agents are the quickest to take effect but even they may need 3 to 4 weeks to really see any visible results.
With this information a good rule of thumb is to spend at least a month if not two with a product using it regularly. If in that time you haven’t been able to see any quantifiable results it may be time to switch to something new.
