Compromised Skin
Skin is considered compromised when its outer layer – the epidermis or protective barrier — has been damaged.
Sometimes the damage is caused from agents within the body, like stress, diet, genetic predispositions, and aging. Other times the damage can come from factors outside the body, like climate extremes, allergens, and pollutants.
Compromised skin needs attention. It does not hold moisture as well as it should. And it does not protect itself as vigorously as it does when healthy, making it more vulnerable to toxins, UV rays, and infections.
The signs of a damaged barrier are many, but the most common are breakouts, rashes, redness, dryness, sensitivity (itching), and changes in tone.
The good news is a broken skin barrier can be restored to health. It does take time and effort, and that effort includes a skin care regimen with plenty of reparative ingredients like fatty acids, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid.
Radiation Dermatitis and Bio Cellulose
People who undergo cancer therapies face a tougher challenge
maintaining skin barrier health.
Some radiation treatments, for example, result in persistent side effects called radiation burn or radiation dermatitis. The skin becomes quite sensitive and reddened (erythroderma), extremely itchy (pruritis), and extremely dry with peeling (xerosis). Severe symptoms can include blisters and open sores.
Bio cellulose – the advanced fabric used in all Bel Mondo products – has properties that make it an ideal occlusive aid for bringing relief to skin that presents mild symptoms of radiation dermatitis.

Bio cellulose is extremely hydrophilic, or water loving, with an amazing capacity to hold and maintain fluid. When applied to dry, reddened skin, a moist bio cellulose fabric is instantly calming, soothing, and comforting.
Equally important, it is an excellent transfer media. It adheres like a second skin, and as a result, it is very good at delivering nourishing skin care ingredients that are super-hydrating and reparative.
