Why do a facial mask at all?

Given the fact that everyday we are caring for our skin we bathe, we cleanse, we tone, we moisturize, we protect from the sun and we exfoliate periodically. Our daily regimens include a lot of care to our skin why then should we also include a mask?

Like any good process using a mask has added benefits others do not, while all the other things we do are important a mask has its own unique way of helping us reach our goals for healthy, vibrant looking skin.

What a facial mask does?

When using a mask you cover your skin completely for a short time you separate the air and pollution from it. This will raise the temperature of the skin which opens pores. Open pores promote secretion from sweat glands which is your body’s natural way of getting rid of chemical pollutants and microorganisms which have been trapped there. This warming action also increases blood circulation which increases the amount that the masks ingredients can be absorbed into the skin.

It is important to note that masking is something we should do periodically. Like any good thing too much can make it become unhealthy. If you apply masks to much you can cause your skin to become overly sensitive or it could even swell. Since a mask is effective at bringing new skin to the surface too much new skin can lose its ability to resist invaders and can make your skin prone to acne.

So what place does a facial mask have in your regimen?

Masking is a process that can greatly improve your skins health, but it should be something we do less then every day. So in between mask usage we still need to cleanse, tone, moisturize and protect from the sun. Read the care instructions on your mask of choice. They usually provide a general guideline of how often to use them. No more then 1 to 2 times a week in most cases. We always like to suggest mask time is a time to relax and give yourself special treatment, after all, someone has got to look after you. Including a weekly mask routine is a good way to make sure you take time for yourself plus you are introducing a healthy skin habit into your regimen.
